How to order a Mermaid Dive suit

Otterbay Mermaid suits can be custom fitted remotely.

There is no need to travel to California for a great fit!

The table shows a complete suite of mermaid dive equipment, excluding standard tanks, regulators and instruments.

• Total cost for a free-diving mermaid outfit, without special options, but including fin and gloves is $795
• Total cost for a scuba mermaid outfit, with streamlined tank harness, without special options, is $975
• Total cost for a scuba mermaid outfit, with special laminated neoprene and hand painted patterns, is $1425

Tank, regulator, mask, snorkel, lead belt weights and dive computer are not included in these prices.

Item Description

Mermaid Suit

Full length, single piece suit from neck to fin, based on custom measurements. Princess style pattern. Single back zipper. 3mm Neoprene, single color. Monofin is enclosed by suit. Broad Velcro closure at trailing edge of fin cover.

Split Monofin Assembly

The monofin to be used within the mermaid suit is split into two halves for easy travel aboard airliners. The two halves can be assembled in about two minutes to form a monofin. The assembly operation consists of connecting the fin halves with a single tie-wrap and a special aluminum bridge piece. The customer can supply her own fins or a monofin and the suit design can be modified to accomodate this. (At an extra charge)..

The fin halves are based on high quality, commercially available free-diving fins with full foot pockets (Cressi Pro Sport) and are shaped to form a nice looking mermaid tailfin and weighed with small lead weights for neutral buoyancy.



A supply of nylon tie-wraps is included with the fin assembly. Note that ordinary nail-clippers are legal to carry aboard an airliner and well suited for cutting nylon tie-wraps.

Fin Socks

A high performance monofin –even one with soft rubber full foot pockets – can chafe, unless soft neoprene foot booties are used. These are available in various thicknesses, to assure best fit.

Gloves

A mermaid suit makes the user somewhat less maneuverable in very close quarters, thus making the use of gloves highly advisable to avoid scrapes and cuts on rocks.. Gloves are available in thin rubber and neoprene, but need to be procured separately.

Hood

Same material as suit.

Color choices, scales etc.

Specially laminated neoprene, handpainted scale patterns are available as extra-cost options.

Remote measurements

The most important component of a functional mermaid suit is the fin. It must fit very well to achieve the speed and power this suit is capable of providing for you. In a nutshell, here is how this works.

You tell us your shoe-size (as part of the measurements) and we will build a mermaid suit based with a tailfin based on these measurement and assuming that you use 3mm/ 1/8" thick neoprene socks. If it turns out that the fin size you gave us isn’t quite right, we can send you fin socks made from thicker or thinner neoprene to fix minor discrepancies. If this is not enough, ou can request to exchange a split monofin with foot pockets of a given size for the next larger or smaller size. We will work hard to give you an optimal fit for your monofin, because this is a very important part of a great mermaid diving experience.

The suit will tend towards a very tight fit, unless you instruct us otherwise. If you plan to use form enhancing inserts in the cups of your bathing suit -which is not unusal with this sexy suit- please take measurements while wearing exactly the same bathing suit and inserts as you plan to use later on beneath the mermaid suit.

To summarize, here is what we’ll do for achieving a perfect fit for your fin:

• You decide which fin sock thickness you like – we recommend 5 mm – and you tell us which fin shoe size you expect to fit you while wearing these socks.
• We send you a split monofin assembly based on your choice and the socks.
• You try out the combination of socks and fin. We suggest you put it on for 10 (yes!) minutes and see how it feels. A short test is not sufficient.
• If it feels good after 10 minutes, we are done.
• If the fin is slightly too tight or loose, we will send you thicker or thinner fin socks. If there is a big discrepancy, send us the fin assembly back and we will send you fins of a different size.
